Import / Update / Upsert Products

The Data Management Tool in Younium lets you bulk create, update, and add to products. With the right setup, you can import full product structures — including charges and pricing — or modify existing products in just a few steps.

This guide is divided into three sections:

  • Import Products – how to structure your source files and use Grouping Identifiers to create products in bulk.

  • Update Products – how to modify existing products, charge plans, charges, or charge details.

  • Upsert Products – how to add new charge plans, charges, or charge details to existing products.

Import Products

The Import Product action allows you to bulk create products by uploading a CSV file and mapping its fields to Younium.

To access:
Settings > Data Management

  • Method: Import

  • Entity: Product

  • Action: Import

Minimum Requirements

To successfully import products, your CSV file must include at least:

  • Product Name

  • Product Type

  • Product Group Identifier

All other values will follow defaults from the product catalog unless explicitly provided.

Default Values

Default product settings can be configured in:
Settings > Products > Product Settings

Available defaults include:

  • Product Configuration Defaults (Activation date, Category)

  • Charge Plan Defaults (Effective Start Date)

  • Charge Configuration Defaults (Charge Model, Charge Type, Unit of Measure, Price Period, Revenue Recognition, Billing rules, Tax setup, Accounts)

⚠️ Note: If no pricing is included, the system will set the base currency with a default price of 0.00.

Grouping of Source Rows

When importing, each source row represents a charge or a price detail. To tell Younium how rows belong together, you’ll use Grouping Identifiers at different levels.

1. Group rows into a Product (Product Group Identifier)

All rows for the same product must share the same Product Group Identifier.

Description

  • Three simple products (Product 1, 2, 3).

Model (CSV-style):

Product NameProduct TypeProduct Group Identifier
Product 1SimpleA
Product 2SimpleB
Product 3SimpleC

2. Group charge plans within a product (Charge Plan Group Identifier)

If a product has multiple charge plans, each plan must have its own Charge Plan Group Identifier.

Description

  • Three products, each with two charge plans.

Model (CSV-style):

Product NameProduct TypeProduct Group IdentifierCharge Plan NameCharge Plan Group Identifier
Product 1Multiple Charge PlanASmallA
Product 1Multiple Charge PlanAMediumB
Product 2Multiple Charge PlanBBasicA
Product 2Multiple Charge PlanBPremiumB
Product 3Multiple Charge PlanCGrowthA
Product 3Multiple Charge PlanCEnterpriseB

3. Group charges within a charge plan (Charge Group Identifier)

If a charge plan contains multiple charges, each charge must be linked to a Charge Group Identifier.

Description

  • Two products of type Full, each with two charge plans containing two charges each.

Model (CSV-style):

Product NameProduct TypeProduct Group IdentifierCharge Plan NameCharge Plan Group IdentifierCharge NameCharge TypeCharge Group Identifier

Product 2FullBPremiumBPremium FeeRecurringA
Product 2FullBPremiumBOnboardingOne-OffB

4. Group pricing details (Price Group Identifier)

When importing pricing, each Price Detail (row) must have its own Price Group Identifier.

  • Every Price Detail equals a Tier.

  • The first tier always starts at 0.

  • If a charge has only a single flat price, it is always tier 0 with its own Price Group Identifier.

  • If a charge has multiple tiers, each tier must have a unique Price Group Identifier (even though they belong to the same charge).

  • Best practice: Use unique values for all Price Group Identifiers throughout the file.

Description

  • Product with one flat fee charge and one tiered charge (3 tiers).

Update Products

The Update Product action modifies existing products, charge plans, charges, or charge details.

What You Must Include

Depending on what you’re updating, you’ll need to provide:

What You’re UpdatingRequired References
ProductProduct Number, Product Group, + updated value
Charge PlanProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Plan Number, Charge Plan Group, + updated value
ChargeProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Number, Charge Group, + updated value
Price DetailProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Detail ID, Price Group Identifier, + updated value

💡 Tip: Update only one type of detail per file (e.g., prices or custom fields). For smoother processing, split changes into separate updates.

Upsert Products

The Upsert Product action lets you add new data to existing products.

What You Must Include

Depending on what you’re adding, you’ll need to provide:

What You’re AddingRequired References
Charge PlanProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Plan Name, Charge Plan Group
ChargeProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Plan Number, Charge Plan Group, Charge Name, Charge Group
Price DetailProduct Number, Product Group, Charge Plan Number, Charge Plan Group, Charge Name, Charge Group, Price Group Identifier, Tier, + pricing details

💡 Tip: Use the Report Tool to export product numbers, charge IDs, and charge detail IDs. This makes it easier to prepare accurate upserts.

Summary

  • Products follow a four-layer hierarchy: Product → Charge Plan → Charge → Charge Detail.

  • Grouping Identifiers (Product, Charge Plan, Charge, Price) define how rows belong together.

  • Each Price Detail requires its own Price Group Identifier, with tiers starting at 0.

  • ✅ Best practice: keep Price Group Identifiers unique throughout the file for easier validation and troubleshooting.

  • Use Update Products to modify existing data, and Upsert Products to add new charge plans, charges, or price details.
