Insights - User guide

Overview

In the Insights application, you can analyze your Subscription KPIs. This can be done by using the standard dashboard with the most common metrics ready to review or by making a detailed analysis of KPIs with the opportunity to group and break the data into several levels.

Refreshing your data

The Insights application uses an internal data layer that extracts data from your Younium tenant into a reporting-friendly data structure. This means the data in Insights is not live data but is easily refreshed using a click of a button.

Click the refresh symbol to refresh your data:

Selecting period

You can select time period in three different ways in the top panel that is always visible when working in Insights:

"Periods" menu selector

With the "Periods" menu selector you can pick from a set of preset date ranges that are relative to the current period.

The start and end month picklists and slider

With the start and end month picklists you can individually set the start and end period. You can either use the picklist or use the slider.

Insights menu

In the left menu you access predefined overview Dashboards and links to Dashboards for detailed analysis.

The predefined Dashboards in the top under "Dashboard" has the purpose of providing overview but do not have capabilities of drill-down, however you can filter using the settings panel on the right.

The Dashboards for detailed analysis under "Metrics" is designed to provide full flexibility to drill down and create custom tables and graphs.

Settings panel

The settings panel on the right hand side includ-s filters and settings. Filters give you a list of fields (what fields you see depends on the dashboard you have open) to filter on. You can enable multiple filters and you have multi-select in the individual fields.

Consolidation and currency conversions

By default, Insights includes data for all legal entities the user can access. However to aggregate data over legal entities with different base currencies, Insights will consolidate the data and use currency conversions.

To be able to consolidate data across multiple legal entities with different base currencies there must be a selected "Group legal entity" configured. Please refer to article for more information and guide how to configure this.

In the Settings panel in Insights there are options for group currency consolidation:

The first option "View in Group curr" defines if you want to do group consolidation, if this is not enabled, you cannot see shared Insights for multiple legal entities with different base currencies. Then you instead see the filter "Base currency entities" where you need to select what legal entities you want to see in your Insights.:

If you have "View in Group curr" enabled, you have two options on how to convert your data to group currency:

Base currency: This is the legacy setting and not generally recommended except for specific use cases. Here Insights will use the base currency amount stored and then convert to group currency. However since the base currency amount on an Order is only recalculated when an Order is created or changed, you may not have accurate reporting according to your expectations.

Original currency: This is the default and recommended setting. Insights will take data from the source currency, for example the currency of an Order and directly convert to the group currency. The currency rate used will be the one for the month you are analyzing, for example if you have a table or graph with MRR for the previous quarter you will see the data converted to group currency using the exchange rate for each of these months.

Adding dimensions

With "dimensions" we refer to the different fields and data points you can filter and group data on. Insights includes dimensions on the most common standard fields in Younium, however you can also add your own dimensions based on custom fields in Younium. You do this by enabling the setting "Include as insights dimension" on the custom field settings (Settings > General > Custom fields). Make sure to have the same custom fields with the same "key" in all your legal entities. You will see your new dimensions after next data refresh to Insights (automatically scheduled every night).

Current limitations

The new Insights application with public release in September 2024 will replace the old legacy Insights in Younium. However there are currently some limitations in the new Insights:

  • Usage data - Usage data is not in Insights MRR. The plan is that this is available before end of 2024
  • Cash flow analysis - Cash flow data is not yet part of new Insights, there will be a completely new built cash flow analysis report in new Insights.
